French 1777 Model Flintlock Carbine or Musketoon (MTS-021) Introduced during the American Revolution, this carbine offered Light cavalry a short, light, and versatile firearm for close quarter fighting - the typical situation for Light Dragoons and Hussars. During the said war, the famous Lauzun's Legion of Hussars (image) carried this carbine at Franco-American capture of Yorktown. However this carbine's true fame was yet to come.
It was in the reign of Napoleon that this firearm (AN IX version) became extensively used. Lancers, Carbiniers a cheval, Artillery Train, and the Line Chasseurs a Cheval all were issued with this carbine. Even the Sapeurs of Infantry Regiments found them ideal for their type of duties. This carbine was also provided to France's allies like Saxony. It is for this reason this carbine is a must for any Napoleonic collection.

The unique element of this carbine is its obviously unique profile with its long muzzle section. As well there is the double carrying methods of both carbine slings (two) for dismounted duties and sling swivel bar and rings for mounted duty. The bar has two rings: one for carbine shoulder belt clip and one for a small strap and buckle that secured it more for longer distance riding. The barrel length is 30 1/2 inches and the overall length is 45 inches. It has a .69 calibre bore. If the replica doesn't have these features, it isn't a 1777 French Cavalry Carbine.
As the images attest, this replica is quite well researched and assembled and faithful to the original. The seamless tempered barrel is made of modern carbon steel (type:BS970 no.080M40) and the breech is tight. We use a industrial case-hardening factory process that makes sparking both more reliable and longer lasting. Presently no other musket provider uses this technique.
As with all our other flintlocks, the vent is not drilled (read details below) so we can ship easily to your door throughout North America and to Europe and the UK. Aside from that they are exactly like the originals. A fine addition to any collection.

We sell historically accurate muskets and pistols in a non-firing state for demonstration purposes. This allows us to comply with various local, state, national and international firearms regulations, along with shipping company policy restrictions. This means the product can be shipped right to your doorstep. A certified gunsmith may decide to alter a musket or pistol to a firing state by drilling the vent hole and test firing it.
