Biographies

Marquis Louis-Joseph de Montcalm 1712-1759 Commander of French regular forces, Montcalm continually clashed with his superior officer, Vaudreuil.

General James Wolfe 1727-1759 After leading the British landing at Louisbourg, he became army commander of the now famous expedition against Quebec City.

General Robert Monckton 1726-1782 Wolfe's very able second-in-command during the siege of Quebec.

Marquis Pierre de Rigaud de Vaudreuil 1698-1778 Last Governor General of New France. He was continually at odds with Montcalm on the best way to conduct the war.

Brigadier Francois-Gaston Lévis 1719-1787 Montcalm's second in command, Lévis was probably France's most able general in New France and came close to saving the colony in 1760.

General Jeffrey Amherst 1717-1797 Served as overall commander of the British Army in North America for the majority of the war.

Admiral Charles Saunders 1715-1775 Commander of the Royal Navy in the Quebec Expedition, he played a key role in the fall of New France's capital.
